The Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill will host the first annual Citizens of the World Wellness Conference at Caritas Christi, motherhouse of the congregation, 129 DePaul Center Road, Greensburg, on May 22, 2015. The public is invited to attend.
As studies continue to reveal the important role spirituality and a healthy mind play in healing and in fighting disease, a transformation is slowly taking place around the world. As the Church celebrates the 40th Anniversary of the canonization of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in 2015, the Sisters of Charity, in partnership with systems of healthcare, faith-based centers, and educators, are studying the healing of the whole person––mind and spirit, as well as the body. This conference will address today’s new medicine which makes wellness the focus of care.
This seminar is hosted by the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill and sponsored by S’eclairer, an integrative psychiatric medicine center, which fosters wellbeing through cutting edge brain and health sciences. Other sponsors include Excela Health and Faith in Action of the United Way of Westmoreland County. Course directors will be Dr. Safdar I. Chaudhary, MD, Medical Director for S’eclairer, and Julia Trimarchi Cuccaro, Esq., Director of Development for the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill.
The conference will address cultural and environmental diversity in healthy families and communities and view legal, ethical, and educational considerations for integrative wellness among communities in the region. Participants of the conference will come to have an appreciation the role of faith in health and wellbeing as they learn to manage common medical disorders and gain skills for healthful living. In addition, speakers will address healthcare in the digital age and the rise of patient advocacy. Professionals attending the conference will have the opportunity to earn educational credits.
Registration for the conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. Dr. Chaudhary will deliver the keynote address following a welcome and introductions by Sister Catherine Meinert, United States Provincial Superior of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill. An impressive slate of panelists will speak throughout the day including Sister Barbara Ann Boss, SC, the CEO of the Elizabeth Seton Center, who will deliver the pre-luncheon address. Lunch will be provided and attendees will have the opportunity to tour the beautiful award-winning Queen of Peace Chapel when the conference adjourns at 3:30 p.m.
