
SISTER REGINA ORNER, age 76, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on August 18, 2013. Born in Altoona, PA, Sister Regina Orner entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1955, from Sacred Heart parish in Altoona. Preceded in death by her parents, Duayne and Aneina (Weller) Orner and two brothers, William and Duayne, she is survived by a brother, Robert, his wife Ann, and nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Seton Hill University and taught students in the dioceses of Altoona-Johnstown, Greensburg and Pittsburgh. From 1988 until 1990, she ministered at Maryhouse, a home for independent but needy women in Brookline and from 1990 until 1994, she assisted in the dietary department at Assumption Hall, the former retirement home for the sisters. From 1994 until 1999, Sister Regina taught English as a second language to students at Sacred Heart School, Shadyside and in 1999 she was appointed the coordinator of the mail room at Caritas Christi. Quiet and unassuming, Sister Regina believed and followed the teaching of St. Elizabeth Seton, “Put your heart at His feet; it is the gift He loves best.”
