
SISTER MIRIAM DOLORES SELL, SC, age 94, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on May 25. A Pittsburgh native, Sister Miriam Dolores entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1940, from St. Joseph Parish, Mount Oliver. Preceded in death by parents, John W. and Amelia (Litz) Sell, three brothers: Wilbert, Ray and Leo Sell, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Anne (Kerry) Vornadore. She earned a bachelor’s degree in social studies and a master’s degree in history from Duquesne University. A teacher of junior high and secondary school students, Sister Miriam Dolores taught in schools of the Altoona-Johnstown, Greensburg and Pittsburgh dioceses. She began teaching at the former Elizabeth Seton High School in 1970, and continued her tenure there when the school merged with South Hills Catholic High School in 1979, thus making her a charter faculty member of the school, renamed as Seton LaSalle. She retired from the classroom in June 2011. Of her life as a Sister of Charity, Sister Miriam Dolores said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to carry Mother Seton’s spirit to the many young men and women whom I have taught, and who, in turn, have enriched my life.”
