
SISTER MARY SETON WACKER, SC, age 87, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on June 4, 2015. A Pittsburgh native, Sister Mary Seton entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1945, from Resurrection Parish, Brookline, PA. Preceded in death by parents, Carl and Freda (Redling) Wacker, and a sister Mrs. Carol (Dale) Biesecker, she is survived by a sister, Mrs. Freda Mae (Edward) Reed and a niece. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history, English from Seton Hill University and a master’s degree in English, communications from Duquesne University. Sister Mary Seton taught students of the junior and senior high school level in schools of Altoona-Johnstown, Greensburg, Phoenix, Pittsburgh dioceses and in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. From 1986 until 1988, Sister Mary Seton taught at Red Cloud School, and Holy Rosary Indian Mission, Pine Ridge, SD. She served as sacristan at Assumption Hall, the former infirmary and retirement home for the sisters from 1988 until 1996 and at Doran Hall from 1996 until 1999. She then volunteered her services at Reeves Library, Seton Hill University, and provided tutoring services to students studying English as a second language. Gifted and creative, Sister Mary Seton commented about her life as a Sister of Charity, “My greatest satisfaction as a sister has been to witness the progress of my students in their adult lives. It is grace-filled awareness.”
