
SISTER MARY ARLEEN SQUITIERI, SC, age 83, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on August 20, 2016. Born in Pittsburgh, Sister Mary Arleen entered the congregation of the Sister of Charity on September 9, 1951, from Sacred Heart Parish, Shadyside. Preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Maria G. (Mancuso) Squitieri, she is survived by her cousins, including Sister Lois Sculco, SC. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Seton Hill University and taught students of the primary level in diocesan schools of Greensburg and Pittsburgh. She was principal of Saint Paul School, Carbon from 1968 until 1981. In 1993, Sister Mary Arleen began parish ministry to the elderly at Saint Regis Parish, Trafford, a position she held until 2015. In reflecting on her life as a Sister of Charity, she said, “Having experienced the dramatic changes in our Church and especially in religious life, I find my faith stronger, my hope fortified and my charity extended.” Dedicated, down-to-earth and possessing a dry sense of humor, Sister Mary Arleen lived the maxim of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, “Seek God in all things.”
