
SISTER MARIE ARTHUR HAMILTON, SC, 81, died Friday, Aug. 15, 2014, in Greensburg, at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill. A Pittsburgh native, Sister Marie Arthur entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity, Sept. 8, 1950, from St. Rosalia Parish, Greenfield. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Ann (Carney) Hamilton; and a brother, Charles (Chuck). She is survived by two brothers, Arthur and Richard (Dick) Hamilton; two sisters, Mrs. Jean (Robert) Peters and Mrs. Nancy (Eugene) Chapla; and nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Seton Hill University and taught in schools of the dioceses of Greensburg, Phoenix and Pittsburgh, and the Archdiocese of Washington. When health problems forced her to leave the classroom, Sister Marie Arthur ministered as a customer representative at PNC Financial Corp. from 1991 through 1998 and was part of the administrative staff at Holy Savior Cemetery in 1998 to 1999. From 1999 until 2009, Sister Marie Arthur served in the Accounts Receivable Department at the Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center in Brookline, Pittsburgh. Of her life as a Sister of Charity, Sister Marie Arthur said, “I am thankful for the gifted and challenging years in God’s service as a Sister of Charity. I am especially grateful for the time when I could minister to God’s people as a teacher.”
