
SISTER INEZ MARY BECKEL, age 102, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, in Greensburg, on December 18, 2014. A native of Altoona, PA., Sister Inez Mary entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1932, from St. Leo Parish in Altoona. Preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Stella (Vaught) Beckel, three brothers, Edwin, Norman, Walter, and two sisters, Regina and Sister Stella Marie Beckel, SC, she is survived by nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor’s degree in piano, a master’s degree in music education from Duquesne University, and was a certified librarian. Sister Inez Mary taught elementary school students in the dioceses of Altoona-Johnstown, Pittsburgh, Tucson and the Archdiocese of Washington. After her retirement from the classroom, she volunteered her services at Seton Hill University as a librarian and as sacristan. In reflecting on her life as a Sister of Charity, Sister Inez Mary said, “Living religious life in the presence of God is the fullness of joy. May I live in this presence until eternity dawns.”
