
SISTER GEORGIA LITZENBERG, SC (formerly Sister Marie Eric), age 83, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on May 3, 2021. Born in Butler, PA Sister Georgia entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1956, from Saint Joseph Parish, North Oakland, Pittsburgh. Preceded in death by her parents, Leottie and Mary (Weiland) Litzenberg, three brothers, Arthur, Eric, and Weiley, and a sister Kathleen Daugherty, she is survived by nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education, social studies from Seton Hill University, a master’s degree in Theological, Pastoral and Liturgical Studies from LaSalle University, Philadelphia and was a board-certified Chaplain. Sister Georgia taught students of the primary level in schools of the dioceses of Greensburg, Pittsburgh, Tucson and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. She served as a teacher of Catechetics at Holy Trinity Parish in Huntingdon and as director of Religious Education for Sacred Heart, Ascension and Saint Boniface Parishes. She ministered at Saint Albert the Great Parish, Saint Luke Parish, Pittsburgh and Christ the Divine Teacher Parish in Chippewa Township as director of religious education. From 1987 until 1990, Sister Georgia was director of religious education in Preston County, WVA and from 1990-1992, she was Pastoral Associate at Holy Spirit Parish, Jacksonville, NC, and then served as Pastoral Associate at Christ the King Parish in Southaven, MS. After she completed her CPE Residency Program at Westmoreland Excela Health Hospital and was certified as a Board Chaplain, Sister Georgia began ministry at Saint Mary’s Regional Center (now Elk Regional Health Center) in St. Mary’s, PA. From 2001-2002, she was the director of religious education at Saint Sebastian Parish, Imperial and from 2002 until 2009, she was the pastoral minister at Saint John, Delmont and Saint Mary, Export parishes in Greensburg. She was elected as vice-president, Society of Chaplains, Western Region in 2001. In reflecting on her life as a Sister of Charity, Sister Georgia stated, “Faith was a big part of my family and I wanted to be of service. In my ministry, I have touched the lives of many and many lives have touched mine.”
