SISTER DIANE TEMPLE, SC (formerly Sister Josefa Marie) age 72, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on August 23, 2013. A Pittsburgh native, Sister Diane Temple entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1959, from Saint Mary Parish, Glenshaw, Pennsylvania. Preceded in death by her parents, Sidney and Margaret (Reis) Temple, she is survived by three siblings: Paul (Judy) Temple, Phyllis (Bill) Lenz, and Mark (Cindy) Temple as well as many nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Seton Hill University and a master’s degree in medical technology from Wayne State University. Sister Diane taught students in schools of the Altoona-Johnstown, Greensburg, Pittsburgh and Tucson dioceses. From 1971-74, she ministered at the former Pittsburgh Hospital and from 1974 through 1982, she taught secondary school students at Saint Joseph School, Kwang-ju, Korea. After returning from Korea, she taught at Salpointe High School in Tucson, Arizona until 2000. She tutored Korean public school students in biology and also worshiped with the local Korean Catholic community in Tucson. Forced because of illness to retire to Caritas Christi in 2000, Sister Diane continued to minister to others in her own quiet way. Once asked about her favorite things, Sister Diane humorously identified the most important C’s in life: Chocolate, Cookies and Cats! Those who knew and loved Sister Diane would say that she exemplified the “C traits” of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton: Courage, Charity and Compassion.
