The Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill invite the public to participate in a Peace Walk on Saturday, September 17, 2016, 9:30 a.m.–12 noon. Guests will gather at Caritas Christi (the sisters’ motherhouse) and walk or run a scenic course overlooking the city of Greensburg on the Sisters of Charity complex.
In hosting the Peace Walk, the Sisters of Charity hope to provide an opportunity for members of the local community to do something positive for others at a time when there is so much news of conflict in our world. “The vision and mission of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill have always been to advance peace, compassion, and human dignity in our wounded world,” stated Julia Trimarchi Cuccaro, Director of Development for the Sisters of Charity. “Please come walk with us and contemplate peace as you walk our beautiful paths. The proceeds of our walk benefit two tremendous organizations (Seton Center Adult Day Care and Child Care and Greater Greensburg Faith in Action) whose own missions reflect the sisters’ vision and offer valuable and compassionate services to children and the elderly.”
Seton Center offers Adult Day Care Programs at the Greensburg and Pittsburgh locations. In addition, child care, senior services, and music and theater programs are offered at Pittsburgh locations. Greater Greensburg Faith in Action, a program of the United Way, is a volunteer-based effort that provides services such as assisted transportation for medical appointments and grocery shopping, supportive visits to prevent isolation, and home safety checks. “These services save older adults, their family members, and our community at large from the costs associated with higher levels of long-term care options. The Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill have been instrumental in the work of the Greater Greensburg Faith in Action program and we are excited to invite the community to this wonderful event to benefit our senior recipients,” remarked Melaney Hegyes, Faith in Action Site Coordinator.
Participants of the Peace Walk will have an opportunity to visit Queen of Peace Chapel in Doran Hall. Furnishings in the chapel were designed by the world renowned wood master George Nakashima.
Pets are welcome and will receive a special blessing at 11:30 a.m. Entrance fees: single adult-$25, families-$40, students-$5. Pets walk free. To register, call 724-836-0406, ext. 6615 or email tmurphy@scsh.pairsite.com.
