
SISTER M. DEBORAH KELLY, SC, age 96, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on January 31, 2017. Born in Wheeling, WVA, Sister Deborah entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity on September 8, 1943, from Saint Joseph Cathedral Parish in Wheeling. Preceded in death by her parents Michael B. and Kathleen (Mathison) Kelly, two brothers, John B., George M. and a sister Mrs. Helen (Bernard) Snedeker, she is survived by nieces and nephews. Sister Deborah began her teaching ministry at the former Elizabeth Seton High School, and at Resurrection School in Brookline. In 1946, she was assigned to teach mathematics at Seton Hill University where she also served as chair of that department. In 1971, Sister Deborah became registrar at the university, a position she held until 1979, when she became an administrative assistant there. After she retired from the university in 1990, Sister Deborah was affiliated as a tutor in mathematics at Westmoreland Community College. For a number of years, Sister Deborah served as the coordinator of community life for the Sisters of Charity who resided at Seton Hill University. Generous, patient, soft-spoken, Sister Deborah reflected the words of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, “Through piety and gratitude, we come to the deepest recess of peace and true contentment.”
