
SISTER JEANNE ELLEN MORRIS, SC, age 89, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on July 29, 2016. A Pittsburgh native, Sister Jeanne Ellen entered the congregation of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill on September 8, 1953, from Saint Philomena Parish in Pittsburgh, PA. Preceded in death by her parents, Warner and Ginevra (Keating) Morris and three sisters: Elizabeth Morris, Mrs. Margaret (John) Kaufmann and Mrs. Ginevra (Roy) Soisson, she is survived by nieces and nephews. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Carnegie Mellon University and a master’s degree in guidance counseling from Duquesne University. A teacher of middle and secondary school students in diocesan schools of Pittsburgh and Tucson, she also served in the registrar’s office at Seton Hill University and the business office of the former Providence Hospital. Sister Jeanne Ellen ministered at the Cenacle Retreat House in Mount Kisco, NY in 1972-1973, and was the director of religious education at Saint Columbkille Parish in Pittsburgh from 1973-1974. Sister Jeanne Ellen was appointed Secretary of the Matrimonial Tribunal of the Diocese of Greensburg in 1981, a position she held until 1993, when she volunteered as a staff member of Family Hospice in Pittsburgh from 1994 until 1999. In 1999, Sister Jeanne Ellen was named business manager and the coordinator of government programs for the Sisters of Charity at Caritas Christi, where she retired in 2007. Of her life as a Sister of Charity, Sister Jeanne Ellen reflected, “I consider the people I have served, lived with and worked with, to be among my choicest blessings. I thank God for them.”
