
SISTER CATHERINE TERESA HALLINAN, SC, age 100, died at Caritas Christi, the motherhouse of the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill in Greensburg, on March 2. A Pittsburgh native, Sister Catherine Teresa entered the congregation of the sisters of Charity on September 8, 1934, from St. Mary of the Mount Parish. Preceded in death by her parents, John and Catherine (Mullen) Hallinan, a brother, James and a sister, Mary Hallinan, she is survived by a cousin, Mary Wilson. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Duquesne University and taught children of the primary level in schools of the Greensburg and Pittsburgh dioceses. After her retirement from the classroom, Sister Catherine Teresa volunteered her services at Maryhouse and Elizabeth Seton Day Care Center in Brookline. Afflicted in her prime with a facial neurological disorder, Sister Catherine Teresa’s beautiful and generous spirit permeated the environment wherever she served. She claimed for herself one of the teachings of St. Elizabeth Seton, “The affliction of this life is but a moment, while the glory in the life to come will be eternal.”
